A
noticable presence on the celtic musical scene for seven years now
in their native area, Crépuscule is traditional scottish music band
from Quebec City. Marie-Noelle Harvey (fiddle), Christian Haerinck
(border pipes, scottish smallpipes, great highland
bagpipes), Dominic Haerinck
(guitar, voice and harp) and Jean-François Gagné (djembe) get together to perpetuate a musical tradition that is
rooted in the past but firmly established in the present.
Blending instrumental music, songs and folklore,
Crépuscule delves into
the traditional music of the scottish Highlands and Lowlands.
Fiddling tunes that can be at once lively and romantic, the band
favors a musical style closer to the old dance tunes than the more
recent military piping tradition (no, they do not play Scotland the Brave or Amazing Grace...).
Crépuscule also plays
tunes from Ireland and its own compositions. Besides playing
instrumental music - reels, jigs, strathspeys and airs - the quartet also delights in songs, in
english, french or scottish gaelic, sung to new melodies or to the
traditional ones.
